Plug your iphone, ipad, or ipod touch in using your usb to lightning or usb to 30-pin dock cable. click on the device icon at the top left to go to the device tab. click on check for update in the summary pane. click on download and update; agree to the terms and conditions. enter the passcode on your iphone or ipad, if prompted.. Once the update process is complete, itunes will tell you that your iphone is running the current version of the iphone software. you'll see this information on the iphone summary screen. to verify that your iphone software is up to date, look at the top of the iphone summary screen.. Itunes will download the software update onto your computer and then install it on your iphone. step unplug your iphone from your computer when the message at the top of the itunes window tells you that it's safe to disconnect your device..
